Meet Our Undergraduate Admissions Staff
Lou, a Janesville, Wis. native, has spent most of his life in the Midwestern and Southern United States. His early education consists of degrees focused on higher education from the University of Wisconsin and Virginia Tech. He studied substance abuse at the University of Miami and NIH (Jackson Memorial Hospital) and has also spent time studying at Harvard University, University of Alabama and University of North Carolina. As Westminster’s Director of Undergraduate Admissions, he enjoys interaction with the staff, students and parents. His favorite pastime is sports, especially golf and baseball. There are several golf courses around Salt Lake he enjoys going to and his favorite restaurant is au naturale™ in Sugar House.
Darlene is originally from Magna, Utah. She is a University of Utah alumna and received her Master of Education from Westminster. She loves working in higher education and enjoys being in Admissions because it’s "where the journey begins". Her favorite place on campus is Emigration Creek. During Darlene’s spare time, she likes to stay active—hanging out with her two children, golfing, playing racquetball, rafting and going on road trips. She also enjoys relaxing with a good movie and music though. Her favorite local destination is Goblin Valley and food from Bombay House. Ashley Mendenhall, Freshman Admissions Counselor
Ashley Williams, Assistant Director Territory: Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Originally from Oregon, Ashley relocated to Utah for college. She attended the University of Utah, majoring in psychology, and is a recent graduate of Westminster’s Master of Education program. She enjoys working for Admissions because she gets to meet new people every day and has a great set of coworkers. Her favorite campus location is the Giovale Library’s Tower Reading Room because it’s relaxing and has a great view. Ashley enjoys reading, doing activities in the sun, and spending time with friends and family. Her favorite local spot is Liberty Park and her favorite restaurant is Red Rock.
Territory: International students and students living abroad Emily grew up in Lexington, Mass., and graduated with a degree in government from Smith College. She enjoys being a recruiter because she’s able to work with students, make connections all over the world and travel—one of her favorite activities. She also likes run, read and explore the outdoors. On campus, her favorite place is the quad outside the residence halls. Off campus, she likes going to Sugar House Park and eating at Mazza. Hailee Hatch, Assistant Director Territory: Top Scholars; National Merit, National Hispanic, National Achievement and various Utah High Schools Hailee grew up in Vernal, Utah, about three hours east of Salt Lake. She is a University of Utah alumna and recent graduate of Westminster’s Master of Education program. Her emphasis was Adult Learning Specialization. As a recruiter, she enjoys helping hard-working students discover how Westminster can change their lives—both in and outside the classroom. Emigration Creek is her favorite campus location. Hailee enjoys spending her free time traveling, skiing and ice skating. She also likes movies, concerts and amusement parks. Her favorite restaurant is Ruth’s Diner.
Territory: Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas and Utah High Schools Heiti grew up in Hong Kong. She graduated from the University of Utah in 2006 and is currently pursuing an MBA from Westminster. As a recruiter, she enjoys getting to know each of her students on a personal level, guiding them throughout the admission process, and finally seeing them on campus and being a Griffin. Her favorite spot on campus is the Center for Financial Analysis (CFA), located in the Gore School of Business. Heiti likes staying active. She enjoys watching and playing sports and traveling. She loves snowboarding, especially at Snowbird, and also enjoys cooking. Her favorite local restaurant is Blue Plate Diner.
Territory: Transfer Admissions (Last names starting L-Z) Karla is originally from Mexico City, Mexico. She is a Brigham Young University alumna and current in Westminster’s Master of Education program. What she enjoys most about her job is hearing student stories. Her favorite campus location is the Tanner Atrium during the summer. Karla enjoys staying active and being outdoors. She enjoys Latin dancing, tennis, working out, biking, and being in Moab and Lake Powell. Her favorite restaurant in Salt Lake is Happy Sumo Sushi.
Territory: All States with Aviation focus Born and raised in Utah, Manny graduated from Westminster in 2002. As an aviation admission counselor, he lives to fly. He enjoys taking prospective students out flying—seeing the look on their face, and all their fears, hopes and dreams coming out. The most rewarding part of his job is giving students a skill they’ll take with them forever. His favorite campus location is the Aviation Simulation & Testing Center. Aside from flying, Manny enjoys fishing, camping and playing basketball. The mountains are his favorite land location, because it’s an escape from the everyday norm. While in the air, he says it’s hard to pinpoint a favorite spot because it’s all so beautiful from above. As a self-proclaimed health nut, his favorite restaurants are Kneaders and Whole Foods. He also loves taking wheat grass shots.
A native Utahn, Sharayah received her bachelor degree from Westminster in 2008. She majored in Philosophy, an honors degree, and minored in French. She is currently enrolled in Westminster's Master of Professional Communication program. The best part of working for Admission is the students. She loves getting to know them, their passions, needs and fears, and helping them achieve their dreams. “If I can make a difference in a student’s life, then I feel like I’ve done a good job,” she says. Sharayah finds enjoyment in the arts. On campus, her favorite location is the Vieve Gore Concert Hall or the Giovale Library’s Tower Reading Room. During her spare time, she enjoys being with her husband, creating culinary delights, hiking, camping, singing, traveling, working on her French and having memorable conversations over great coffee/wine/chocolate. Off campus, her favorite location is Sugar House Park and the Main Library, located in downtown Salt Lake. While there are many restaurants she enjoys, Aristo’s and Mazza are her top choices. Jeffrey Vandersteen, Transfer Admissions Counselor Territory: Transfer Admissions (Last names starting A-K) Jeff is originally from Redmond, Oregon and graduated from Westminster with a degree in marketing. As an admissions counselor, he likes being able to open the eyes of transfer students by showing them how great Westminster really is. Jeff enjoys playing and participating in all sports. He is a huge Utah Jazz fan and his favorite on campus spot is the Health, Wellness, and Athletic Center. His favorite local spot is Snowbird and restaurant is Iggy’s.
