DeAnne Dunn Hanson '64
B.S. Political Science
Born with a curious mind and compassion for people, DeAnne Dunn Hanson epitomizes service to one’s community. She met the love of her life, Stewart Hanson, at Westminster College and married him during their senior year. Together with Stewart, DeAnne has dedicated her life serving the community through various organizations, locally and nationally.
In addition to her service on both the University of Utah’s Board of Trustees and Westminster College Woman’s Board, DeAnne also served on an endless list of community organizations. Most notably are her services to the Honorary Colonel of Salt Lake City Police Department and The Odyssey House. DeAnne was not only the first female member of the Honorary Colonel organization but also its first female president. Her eighteen years of service to The Odyssey House include being its Chair of the Board for four years. During this time, DeAnne was instrumental in major expansion to The Odyssey House’s services including the outpatient program, the women and children program as well as the father and children program. She also helped create its major fundraiser, “Spring Fling.”
DeAnne is also an active member of the Utah Democratic Party. She served as the chair of its legislative district and a delegate to the historic 1984 Democratic Convention. DeAnne’s involvement with the Democratic Party earned her a featured article printed during her husband’s run for Utah Governor in 1992 called “Hanson: Her Political Skills Rival Husband’s.”
Despite living in St. George, Utah, DeAnne continues to find ways to remain involved with her Salt Lake City community. She and her late husband have three daughters and several grandchildren.
