Babs De Lay
Babs De Lay ('76, '79)
Babs De Lay is the owner and principal broker of Utah Urban Homes and Estates in downtown Salt Lake City. She is past director of the Salt Lake Board of Realtors, past president of the Women’s Council of Realtors, and a National Association of Realtors instructor. Babs was appointed as a planning commissioner for Salt Lake City in 2004 by Mayor Rocky Anderson and is serving her second term under Mayor Ralph Becker.
Babs serves on the advisory board for the Utah Coalition Against Sexual Assault and is past president of the Rape Recovery Center. In 2005, she won the National Award for Outstanding Advocacy and Community Work in Ending Sexual Violence, in part for her role in the production of the Vagina Monologues for the past 15 years. She was also a volunteer host for KRCL’s radio show Women: The Second Decade for 27 years—the longest running women’s music program on public radio in the United States.
Babs was awarded the YWCA’s Outstanding Leadership Award in Business in 2008 and has received many awards for volunteerism in the community, as well as awards for sales and achievements in her industry. Babs graduated from Westminster in 1976 with dual majors in English and behavioral science, and later earned another degree in business communications. She is the mother of twin daughters and has four grandchildren.
