Josie Valdez '83
Josie Valdez graduated from Westminster in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in business and economics. She served the state of Utah as assistant district director, for the Utah Small Business Administration, where she managed a $97 million budget in government contracting, lending and business management programs for women, veterans, minorities, young entrepreneurs and Americans with Disabilities. After retiring, Josie dedicated herself to civic and social organizations, volunteering with the Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Democratic Hispanic Caucuses, and establishing a bilingual Toastmasters club. The leadership and teamwork skills coupled with critical thinking and collaboration skills Josie learned at Westminster have been keys to her success. Communication and writing were infinitely important in her role, as they allowed her to promote ideas and recruit volunteers for her efforts. As a spokesperson for the Hispanic community and small business, Josie has worked for equality and justice and exemplified Westminster’s goal of global consciousness.
