Alumni Art on Campus

“George Santayana once said that ‘Art is a delayed echo.’ It is important to recognize the art of our alumni, who are in fact, the echo of Westminster’s unique environment for learning” said Dana Tumpowsky, director of alumni and parent relations.

In October, an Alumni Art Crawl was offered in conjunction with the Faculty Art Exhibit. On opening night, more than 50 alumni and their friends enjoyed the exhibits. Art classes continued to drop by to appreciate the pieces throughout the following week. The show continued through November.

Alumni art is featured all year long in the Great Hall of the Kim T. Adamson Alumni House, with many of the pieces available for purchase. Currently, the art of Layne Meacham ’73 is being featured at the Adamson Alumni House and can be seen while the Alumni House is open. Alumni art exhibits are invited and chosen by a staff committee according to the artistic quality of the works and the suitability of format for the Kim T. Adamson Alumni Art gallery physical space. Alumni exhibits run September-December and January-April. New alumni graduating in May are displayed in May-August.

Alumni artists interested in exhibiting are invited to submit a portfolio to the Adamson Alumni Art Program. Portfolios should be submitted one month period prior to the following deadlines:
• March 1
• July 1
• November 1
Portfolios should include:
• Artist statement and/or biography
• Artist resume
• images on CD, photographs, or a Web site presentation.
• Publicity materials or reviews from previous exhibitions (if possible)
• A self-addressed and stamped envelope for submission materials return (materials and notification of committee decision will be returned one month prior to exhibit)
