Helen Hodgson earned a bachelor's degree in English at the University of Michigan and a master's and Ph.D. in English from the University of Denver. Her dissertation was a critical edition and analysis of the short stories of Ambrose Bierce. For a number of years, she worked as a senior Technical Publications Editor at the U.S. Geological Survey, where she developed expertise in the teaching of technical writing. Biomedical communications is of particular interest to Hodgson, who has served as president of the American Medical Writers Association. As a freelance writer, she specializes in topics related to health and wellness and held the position of food editor at Salt Lake magazine for 7 years. She is beginning her nineteenth year at Westminster College.
