About

Originally from New England, I moved to Salt Lake City in 1990 to begin my teaching career at Westminster College. I love what Salt Lake offers - easy access to both the mountains (can you say "Greatest Snow on Earth?") and the cultural events provided by Salt Lake's urban setting.

Research/Teaching Interests

I especially enjoy teaching computer science as it is such a fast-changing field. I find it particularly challenging to teach current and leading-edge technology using a perspective that allows the technology to appear timeless to students. My goal is to prepare students with the skills required to enter the competitive technology marketplace, but to also prepare them with analytical and critical-thinking skills that allows them to quickly adapt to the emerging technologies they will find later in their careers.

I especially enjoy teaching software engineering, operating systems, and computer networks.

My research interests are in the field of operating systems where I have co-authored two texts - "Operating Systems Concepts" and "Operating System Concepts With Java."
