Janine Wanlass, Ph.D.

About

Growing up in California, I could not imagine living in a place where the closest approximation to a beach is the Great Salt Lake. I came to Utah to attend college, thinking I would leave and settle in a coastal city. Years later, I find myself enjoying the beauty of the mountains, a climate with changing seasons, and a job I find challenging and fun. I came to Westminster in 1990 and subsequently finished my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Utah. I presently serve as the department chair for psychology, surrounded by colleagues with a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students. In addition to my academic life, I am a practicing psychologist specializing in the treatment of trauma, eating disorders, depression, and anxiety. I am a member of the Child Trauma Treatment Network, chair the Child Abuse and Neglect Advisory Council for the state of Utah, and serve on the local faculty of the International Psychotherapy Institute (Salt Lake Sattelite). Away from work, I enjoy reading, travel, gardening, and (of course) baseball.
