About

Karlyn Bond was born in Spokane (WA) but grew up in Salt Lake City and has always considered Utah her home. After completing her doctorate as a Jacob Javits Fellow at the University of Southern California, she returned to Salt Lake City and began teaching at Westminster College the following academic year. She is a member of the honors faculty and teaches a variety of music and interdisciplinary courses. As a pianist Karlyn, since early childhood, has consistently performed widely and in many different capacities as a soloist and collaborative artist. (She first appeared as a soloist with the Utah Symphony Orchestra at the age of twelve.) She is one of the original board members of the recently established Intermezzo Chamber Music Series in Salt Lake, a series in which she regularly performs. An ardent Anglophile, a few of her other passions outside music include great books, architecture, hiking, and Utah scenery. She brought a musical perspective to the work of one of her favorite writers in the independent release of her compact disc, "Piano Classics from the World of Jane Austen."

Research/Teaching Interests

Piano performance, chamber music, music history, theory and analysis of tonal music, art history, aesthetics, and literature
