Research/Teaching Interests

My research is on enterococci, which are common bacteria found in the gastrointestinal tracts of many animals. While not usually pathogenic, they often cause nosocomial infections of the urinary tract, as well as surgical infections and endocarditis. A complex interaction of adhesive and other virulence factors are likely to enhance the pathogenicity of these organisms. We have also started a project to screen Staph. aureus isolates in different populations and check their antibiotic sensitivity.
