Description:

The Barry M. Goldwater scholarship is intended for sophomores or juniors who intend to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences or engineering. Each scholarship covers eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, room and board, up to a maximum of $7,500 a year. Sophomores are eligible for up to two years of support. All candidates must be nominated by their college or university. The foundation invites eligible accredited institutions to nominate students each year. Each participating institution appoints a faculty representative to serve as a liaison between the institution and the Foundation. Nomination materials are distributed to these faculty representatives.

Enrollment Requirement:

To be considered for nomination as a Goldwater scholar: " Intend to pursue a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. " Be a full-time matriculated sophomore or junior pursuing a degree at an accredited institution of higher learning during the year of nomination. " Have at least a B average and be at the top fourth of his or her class. " Be a United States citizen, a resident alien, or in the case of nominees from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Mariana Islands, a U.S. National.
