Description:

Program Description: Scholarships are awarded to students planning to attend graduate school in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. A Beinecke scholar receives a total of $32,000 (an initial $2,000 is awarded to the student just prior to entering graduate school. An additional $30,000 is awarded during graduate school). Application Procedures: Approximately 100 institutions are invited to nominate one candidate to the national competition. About 20 are awarded annually. Students enrolled in participating schools (see web site for list) should contact their institutional representative for information on specific procedures and deadlines. Application includes: -Certification of Eligibility Form completed by the dean or the nominating official -Completed application form -Official transcript from all postsecondary schools attended -Personal statement of 1,000 words or less describing the candidates background, interests, plans for graduate study, and career aspirations. -Financial Data Sheet completed by a financial aid officer -Three letters of recommendation from facility members -A letter from the dean or nominating official

Eligibility Requirements: -Have demonstrated superior standards of intellectual ability, scholastic achievement, and personal promise during his or her undergraduate career. -Be in the junior year of a college at a participating institution (see web site). -Be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. national from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands -Have a documented history of receiving need-based financial aid during college.
