Description:

The scholarship is designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic, and Native American students to pursue undergraduate college degrees in the chemical sciences. The American Chemical Society Scholars Program will award approximately 100 scholarships to undergraduate students interested in four-year degrees in the chemical sciences; those interested in transferring from two-year colleges to four-year colleges to pursue chemical science degrees; and to two-year students intending to pursue degrees in chemical technology. High school seniors who will be entering college are also eligible. The scholarship is valued at up to $2500 per academic year for freshmen, and up to $3000 per academic year for sophomores, and up to $5,000 per academic year for juniors and seniors. To qualify, candidates must be: *African American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian; *a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.; *a full-time student at an accredited college, university, or community college; *high academic achievers in chemistry or science (GPA 3.0 or higher); *able to demonstrate evidence of financial need according to FAFSA form; *a high school senior, college freshman, sophomore or junior intending to or already majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a chemically-related science and planning a career in the chemical sciences or chemical technology. Please note that students intending to enter Pre-Med or Nursing programs or pursuing a degree in Pharmacy are not eligible for this scholarship. Enrollment Requirement:

To be considered for a scholarship through the ACS Scholars Program, candidates must meet the following criteria: -Be African-American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian -Be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident -Be a full-time student at a high school or accredited college, university, or community college -Demonstrate high academic achievement in chemistry or science (Grade Point Average 3.0, "B" or better) -Demonstrate financial need according to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA) and the Student Aid Report (SAR) form -Be a graduating high school senior or college freshman, sophomore or junior intending to or already majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a chemically-related science OR intending to or already pursuing a degree in chemical technology -Be planning a career in the chemical sciences. *Please note that students intending to enter Pre-Med programs or pursuing a degree in Pharmacy are not eligible for this scholarship.
