Pottery Facility

The Dolores Dore Eccles Ceramic Center opened its doors on September 9, 1999 to serve the art students of Westminster. It is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment with a large brightly-lit wheel room and studio.

Features of the center include:

  • Three types of kilns
  • 16 electric wheels
  • Glaze room
  • Damp room
  • Hand building area
  • Flexible studio hours
  • A Laguna Pulley Raku kiln
  • A 33 square foot Alpine updraft gas kiln

Students will work with a variety of clays and glazes, and invariably kiln temperatures, in the study of pottery as an art form. Not to mention that students will be exposed to both wheel throwing and hand buliding techniques. Kay Kuzminski, Ceramics Professor, is dedicated to her students understanding the different processes associated with pottery. Kay teaches many different firing techniques, such as high, reduction, low, or raku firings. As well as, she exposes her students to the endless creative processes behind those firings with glazework and other techniques.

There's so much to do right on campus -- and everything is within walking distance. Very cool.
