Languages Learning Goals

• Students will:
  Distinguish cultural and structural differences between native and target languages.
  Understand basic literary texts
  Understand a variety of cultural perspectives, current events/problems, and advanced literary texts in the target language.
• Students will:
  Create basic sentences and phrases in the target language.
  Write and speak about culturally and historical issues in the target language at the intermediate and advanced levels.
• Students will:
  Work in groups and help one another in the learning process.
• Students will:
  Write sentences, dialogues, and short essays in the target language. Oral proficiency is emphasized at a "survival" level
  Compose complex, thematic essays and communicate orally using all verb tenses and grammatical structures
  Write extensive essays, give oral presentations in the target language, and participate in advanced thematic discussions
• Students will:
  Studycultural differences as described in short readings and the study of new grammatical structures.
  Understand the variety of perspectives offered by foreign language study.
  Investigatethe different world visions expressed in literary masterpieces in the target language.
• Students will:
  Master basic language structure and verbs. Oral proficiency at the basic level.
  Demonstrate oral proficiency at intermediate and advanced levels and the ability to understand a variety of literary texts and advanced oral expression.
• Students will:
  Research into the language structure and cultural issues may be carried out in English or with basic language skills.
  Research remains limited to language structure and basic cultural issues.
  Research into cultural and history is encouraged, as well as cultural traditions.
  Research on culturally-related issues is continued, as well as research into basic literary traditions and authors.
  Research begun in Language 320 is reinforced and enhanced.
