UV Resistance of Halophilic Archaea
|
|
Liz's research concerns the UV resistance of halophilic archaea from Great Salt Lake to help our understanding of their DNA repair systems. The halophiles are exposed to varied time lengths of UVC light to create dimers in the DNA. The DNA is then extracted using a FAST Soil DNA extraction kit and the dimers can be examined to help determine the role of carotenoids in DNA damage prevention. Liz also works with Jay on the characterization of the carotenoids within the halophiles.
