howdy folks.

it's been far too long. my apologies. second semester, between finishing my thesis and my term as vice president, i barely had time to breathe!

so i better update you on the happenings of life. my semester ended well. i got an a on my thesis and i'm very proud of the finished product! i had a few consistent themes about No Child Left Behind that became evident in after coding all of my interviews. mostly i'm glad to be done with it! writing a 30 page paper is no easy feat, my friends. it's not for the faint of heart and some advice... don't procrastinate it!

my term with aswc is over but i'm confident the new executive cabinet will do a stellar job! they're very prepared and enthusiastic to continue growing the organization in positive ways.

i am, however, still staying involved with the school through the alumni organization. myself and a number of other recent graduates are on the newly created young alumni committee (we still need to come up with a name... YAC isn't that appealing). we're hoping to develop a stronger connection with young alums to the school, all the benefits there are to being a Westminster alum and the possibilities the alumni office has to offer. it's a fun group of people and i'm excited to be a part of this group's start!

as for the future, graduation is at the end of the month! ah! it's nuts! i decided to defer my graduate school admissions. for a few reasons... mostly because i've been in school non stop for the last 4 years. summer school every year, just to stay in salt lake, and now i am burned out. i don't want to work on an advance degree with so little energy for it. but i will be going to graduate school... just not so soon.

it is, however, a rough time to be entering the workforce. i'm trying to remain upbeat! since the beginning of the month I have applied to a number of entry level positions at colleges, working in student or residence life offices. i'm also applying to secondary school jobs and looking for programming type internships.

my westminster student adventure is almost over, but i know that i'll always be closely tied to this school. i've loved my time here! i'll keep updating ya'll in the next months about the trials and benefits of being a graduate!

thanks for tuning in. RicheL.

oi vey! it's been a while; my apologies. but i have lots of rad news & updates so at least there's that :)

got back from a week in Washington DC on Friday. wow. what a trip. it was my first time in the district since i was 8 years old. i went with my two best girl friends because i received 4 tickets from Senator Bob Bennett to see the inauguration of Barack Obama.

we tried to fit in as much as we could while we were there. of course we went to the inauguration on the 20th. hours and hours of standing in the freezing cold was well worth being a part of the very large crowd there to witness Obama's first moments as the 44th President. his speech was absolutely amazing. i feel so blessed to have been there, especially since Obama is the first president i ever voted for.

we also got to see the Holocaust Memorial Museum. and wow. it was incredibly moving. we spent an afternoon at the National Portrait Museum. very rad. one night wandering the historic streets of Georgetown was cool. but by far my favorite place was the Library of Congress. if you don't know me you probably don't know that i love books. i stay up way too late reading many nights because i can't stop. the Library of Congress is the world's largest library. we got to see books from Jefferson's original library and the first map that depicted the 'new world.'

i learned that i wasn't chosen for the Teach for America program. a bit of a bummer but it was an amazing week otherwise so that helped. i have, however, so far been accepted into 2 of the 5 student affairs programs i applied to! i'll learn about the others in the next few weeks. it's crazy; i graduate so soon!

mr. westminster is this wednesday. it should be one of the best events of the year. i cannot wait to see some of my friends make fools of themselves for such a good cause. stop by if you can. wednesday the 28th at 8 pm in the HWAC gym.

for tuning in, ya'll.

adieu

RicheL.

Senior citizens are one of my favorite groups of people. Yesterday was spent serving a Thanksgiving meal to the Senior citizens of Carbon county and residents of the Mission in Helper. What a fun day! My whole family and a large group of our friends had the best time! We served then ate some turkey, too. Now I'm hanging out at home, on and off helping my Mama prepare food for our meal tonight. kind of working on homework. Here at the Raich house we don't do turkey; we eat Prime Rib :) I cannot wait for 6 o'clock to roll around!

Some, very fantastic news, I got invited to participate in a day long, in person interview with Teach for America! This is really what I want to do and being asked to do the interview is such an honor! I have to prepare a 5 minute lesson, read a few more articles, participate in a group discussion and be interviewed individually by a Teach for America representative. Oh boy, I am nervous! And excited! And overwhelmed! It's two weeks from yesterday.

I am also finishing up the coding of all those teacher interviews I did for my thesis. It's slow but steady work. I'm almost done! Next semester I'll write up a paper of my findings and such.

Graduate school applications... They are such a pain! I have pretty much everything done. I have to pick up all of my recommendations and finish writing the 'Personal Statements, Professional Goals' papers for each school. So now, I must go. Barrel down and finish all of this stuff so I can mail off my applications by Friday!

Adieu

RicheL.
