11/6 Westminster Presents a Lecture on
Dr. Sandra Steingraber will discuss environmental links to cancer and reproductive health
SALT LAKE CITY – As part of the 2008-09 Bastian Foundation Diversity Lecture Series, Westminster College is pleased to host a lecture on “First Environment: Ecological Threats to Women's Fertility” by Dr. Sandra Steingraber on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in the Vieve Gore Concert Hall in the Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory.
As we pay more attention to environmental issues, we confront our responsibilities to future generations. Dr. Sandra Steingraber, an internationally recognized expert on environmental links to cancer and reproductive health, positions us to think more deeply about this issue. Her latest book—Having Faith: An Ecologist’s Journey to Motherhood—examines connections between environmental hazards and fetal and infant development, making our focus on the environment and future generations much more immediate.
A scientist, poet, author and professor, Steingraber has taught biology at Columbia College, Chicago; held visiting fellowships at the University of Illinois, Radcliffe, Harvard, and Northeastern University; and served on President Clinton’s National Action Plan on Breast Cancer. She is currently the Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.
The event is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a discussion with the audience. For more information, visit www.westminstercollege.edu/cultural_events.
