Westminster Climbs to Number One

SALT LAKE CITY – For the first time in school history the Westminster men’s basketball team is ranked number one in the NAIA coaches’ poll. Westminster received nine first place votes and 310 total points to move up one spot to the top ranking. Westminster went 2-0 last week against Montana Tech and Montana Western while previous No. 1 Mountain State dropped a game last week.

Westminster is currently 18-1 overall and 4-0 in the Frontier Conference. They are tied with Georgetown (Ky.) for the most wins in the NAIA this season. By assuming the top spot in the poll, Westminster becomes the fifth different team to be ranked number one this season.

The Griffins will put that No. 1 ranking on the line when they face No. 13 Carroll College on Thursday, January 22 at 8:00 p.m. in Helena, Montana. Westminster has lost five straight in Helena with the last win coming on January 17, 2004.
