Westminster Makes Ethics Bowl Nationals for 6th Year in a Row
OGDEN, Utah – Westminster College's Ethics Bowl team once again qualified for Nationals during the 2011 Regional competition held at Weber State University on Nov. 12, 2011. This marks Westminster’s sixth straight year they have qualified for the national competition.
The national Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl (IEB) competition is sponsored by the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics, and will be held March 1, 2012, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Utah teams from Westminster and Weber State University will compete against more than 30 other teams across the country.
“This year’s Ethics Bowl team worked very hard to prepare for the regional competition and we are very proud of them,” said Dr. Michael Popich, Westminster Ethics Bowl team advisor.
This year’s Ethics Bowl team includes: Jillian Edmonds*, Tess Graham*, O'Ryan Moore, Dailey Haren**, Kira Costagno, Victoria Valencia*, Katrina England***, John Allred*, Carlye Dalkert and Rachel Westmoreland.
The IEB is a team competition that combines the excitement and fun of a competitive tournament with an innovative approach to education in practical and professional ethics for undergraduate students. In the IEB, each team receives a set of cases which raise issues in practical and professional ethics in advance of the competition and prepare an analysis of each case. During the competition a moderator poses questions ranging from professional ethics to political ethics and a panel of judges evaluates the responses.
In 2009 and 2011, Westminster’s team placed in the top 10 nationwide.
