Utah Student 25 program recognizes top Utah college entrepreneurs
SALT LAKE CITY – For the second year in a row, two Westminster College MBA students placed in the Utah Student 25 competition. The statewide competition recognizes students who accept the challenges of going to school and running a business. Matt Carlson, (Four Pillar Fitness and Club V Volleyball) and Ryan Kendrick, (Chocolot Artisan Confections) were recognized at an awards gala at the Grand America Hotel on November 4.
Carlson’s companies both secured two, top-ten spots in the program this year. Four Pillar Fitness, a comprehensive fitness training facility that ranked 10th in last year’s competition, placed 8th. Club V Volleyball, Carlson’s newest business venture which helps girls who play volleyball land college scholarships, came in 7th.
“This competition is proof that the knowledge I’ve gained at Westminster is everything I need to run a successful business,” Carlson said.
Kendrick, whose company Chocolot sells artisan chocolates mainly to wholesalers, placed 19th on this year’s list.
Rankings were based on company growth and revenue.
Both students were involved in Westminster’s Institute for New Enterprise, which helps foster and develop the skills critical to successful entrepreneurial leadership. Carlson says the tools and support Westminster provides to students was crucial to his companies’ rankings in the Utah Student 25 program- a program he claims will take his business to the next level.
“Placing on the list is such an honor in itself, but even more is the opportunity to be recognized among your peers, and not just in Utah, but to draw national attention to your company,” Carlson added. “Your company has the eyes of prospective investors.”
Students from Utah State University, BYU, Utah Valley University, the University of Utah and Dixie College also participated in the event.
