Westminster Restructures College’s Enrollment Management
Gary Daynes takes on expanded leadership role as vice president for Strategic Outreach and Enrollment
SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster College has announced a restructure of its enrollment management office, appointing Gary Daynes, Ph.D., as vice president for Strategic Outreach and Enrollment, and Elizabeth Key as associate vice president for Enrollment Management.
As vice president for Strategic Outreach and Enrollment, Daynes will focus on shaping enrollment and financial aid strategy, managing government relations, and supporting strategic planning and messaging. Additionally, Daynes will assist in student retention initiatives. As associate vice president for Enrollment Management, Elizabeth Key will direct the admissions and financial aid offices, helping the college to meet its enrollment goals for freshmen, transfer and graduate students.
“This restructuring strengthens the college’s ability to make a Westminster education accessible to a broader range of students,” Daynes said. “It also better connects the college with the broader community, and does more to integrate Westminster’s enrollment efforts with our work on improving our already strong student retention and graduation rates.”
Daynes has been serving as interim vice president of Enrollment Management since July 2011, and takes on this expanded leadership role with extensive experience at Westminster. Daynes joined the college in 2006 as an associate professor of history and director of the Center for Civic Engagement. He has also served as associate provost for integrative learning and interim dean of the Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business. He has helped implement several important college initiatives, including a pilot program to use e-portfolios to assess student learning and achievement of college-wide learning goals.
Key most recently served as director of admissions at Westminster. She joined the college in 2008 as senior assistant director of financial aid and quickly advanced to director of financial aid. Her experience in the both admissions and financial aid will be crucial in this newly created position.
Key earned a bachelors of science in business administration and an MBA from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York. Prior to joining Westminster, Key was account manager at National Education in Wilmington, Delaware, and assistant director of financial aid at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York.
Daynes holds a bachelor of arts in history from Brigham Young University and a master's and Ph.D. in American history from the University of Delaware. He has been the author and co-author on numerous journal articles, books and book chapters and has presented at conferences and workshops on topics such as student learning, service-learning, civic engagement and American history. Prior to joining Westminster, Daynes served as the director of the American Heritage program and associate director of the Freshman Academy at Brigham Young University.
Westminster recently welcomed its largest freshman class with a historic number of out-of-state and international students. Since 2004, enrollment at Westminster has grown more than 30 percent.
