Westminster College Launches New Continuing Education Program

New program includes personal enrichment and professional development courses

SALT LAKE CITY –
Westminster’s Division of New Learning is pleased to announce the launch of the college’s Continuing Education program. The new program will be open to community members, and includes personal enrichment classes and professional development courses to begin in January 2010.

“Westminster has long enjoyed a reputation for its high quality academic programs that emphasize active learning, close faculty relationships and small class sizes,” said David Stokes, director of the college’s new program. “Continuing this tradition of excellence, we have decided to offer continuing ed seminars to the community to help members hone their business skills as well as to develop their personal skills.”

The new program will kick off in the spring semester with a lineup ranging from stock investing to triathlon training courses. The following is a list of the initial courses:

Professional Development Workshops:

What: Idea to Reality: Develop and Profit From Your Idea, Innovation, or Invention
When: Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. from January 14 – February 2
Where: Converse Hall, Room B1
Cost: $149
Taught by Richard Crangle, founder of Crantec, and based on his book, Success: Develop and Profit From Your Invention, this seminar guides you through the process of successfully developing, producing and marketing your idea, innovation or invention.


What: Stock Investing in a Volatile Market
When: Two Saturdays (January 30 and February 13) at 8:30 a.m.
Where: Center For Financial Analysis, Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business
Cost: $149
Since the rapid decline of the stock market during the current recession, it has been difficult to determine which markets to get into, what stocks to buy or sell and when to get out. This two-session seminar, taught by Rob Patterson, CFA, MBA, will provide participants with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate volatile markets and manage their investments successfully.


What: Focused Project Management
When: February 24 at 5:30 p.m.
Where: HWAC Special Events Room
Cost: $179
Taught by Clark Campbell, author of the best selling book The One-Page Project Manager, this workshop will give participants powerful project management tools. This interactive workshop is for executives, managers, team leaders, engineers, project managers and academics, either broadly interested in, or specifically determined to achieve greater success in project management and communications. This workshop will provide tools, which can be used today by both the novice and the seasoned practitioner.
