SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster student body president Cooper Henderson and 14 fellow student body presidents from across the country will travel to Russia in November at the invitation of the Russian Federal Agency on Youth Affairs.
Henderson, who is also a member of Westminster's Honors program, is one of a handful of young leaders who was chosen to represent the U.S. as a future shaper of American policies. Henderson will be in good company with other finalists coming from schools like Columbia, MIT, Stanford, Harvard, and Berkeley, to name a few. Four Utah colleges will be represented, including Westminster, Utah Valley University, Snow College and Dixie State College.
The Russian Federation on Youth Affairs is a governmental agency with a mission to develop Russian youth and ensure its proactive role in the growth of Russia. Their goal is to foster contacts for young Russian leaders with their peers worldwide to expand their outreach. The organization aims to strengthen ties between the Russian Federation and the U.S.
The trip will take place from November 13 through 20, and will include visits to the Presidential Administration, Foreign Ministry, State Duma (lower chamber of parliament), American Chamber of Commerce in Russia, Moscow State University, the Youth Public Chamber and representatives of Russian youth organizations, et.al.
“I am honored to represent Westminster College, Utah and the United States on this trip,” said Henderson. “I look forward to learning from our colleagues in Russia and building lasting relationships between our two great nations.”
