SALT LAKE CITY
– More than 130 teams from colleges and universities around the state registered to compete in The Utah Entrepreneur Challenge - a statewide, student-run entrepreneur competition. After the first round of eliminations, just 30 teams are left- four of them representing Westminster College.

Three of the four Westminster teams also placed in Westminster’s Opportunity Quest- a campus-wide business plan competition held earlier this year.

Massox, first-place in Opportunity Quest: The brainchild of Westminster MBA student Jeff Bischoff, the company is a sock manufacturer initially launching men’s designer dress socks that contain patent pending therapeutic, acupressure massagers on the inside surface of the sock.

Wenxani, second-place in Opportunity Quest: Wenxani is a non-profit organization that offers an online tool for tracking addiction recovery as a supplement to professional counseling. The team is led by MBA student Eric Riddle.

Xazzu Rice Pudding, third-place in Opportunity Quest: Led by MBA student David Dorris, Xazzu is a fast, casual, premium rice pudding restaurant that will launch in the Utah market based on a concept proven in New York.

BuzzBox: Designed in hopes of lowering the number of DUI related accidents, BuzzBox is a kiosk that accurately measures a person’s blood alcohol level and provides him or her with the option to request a taxi- all from the same machine. The team is led by undergraduate student Jason Knott.

Ten finalists selected from the top 30 teams will pitch their business idea to a panel of professional entrepreneurs. The winning team will be announced at the Utah Entrepreneurs Challenge’s final awards banquet held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the University of Utah Rice Eccles Stadium Tower. Over $60,000 in prize money, sponsored by Zions Bank, will be awarded to the top teams to help start their business.
