Westminster's Meldrum Science Center Named Best Institutional Project Over $10M

Big-D Construction receives two prestigious construction awards for Meldrum Science Center

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) has named Westminster’s Meldrum Science Center the Best Institutional Project Over $10 Million. The 60,000 sq. ft., four-story building is the first higher education campus building in the state of Utah to be awarded LEED Platinum certification.

Big-D Construction was presented the Champion of ABC Award, as well as the Excellence in Construction Award, for construction of the center at a ceremony in Salt Lake City on March 16.

Big-D began work on the center in 2008, and construction was completed in the fall of 2010. The center features 14 high-performance integrated lab/classrooms and five dedicated research labs. It includes open space for students and faculty from different disciplines to discuss new concepts and conduct research collaboratively. The Meldrum Science Center is designed to facilitate active, experiential, interdisciplinary and collaborative learning through the use of open, flexible classroom spaces and research labs.

In 2006, Big-D also received the Champion of ABC Award for Westminster’s Dolores Doré Eccles Health, Wellness, and Athletic Center.
