Westminster Students Win Utah CFA Challenge

Westminster team advances to regional CFA finals in New York City
SALT LAKE CITY – The CFA Society of Salt Lake awarded Westminster first place in the Utah CFA Institute Research Challenge. The global competition tests the analytic, valuation, report writing, and presentation skills of university students. Westminster’s team now advances to the Americas Regional Finale in New York City.
Westminster’s team competed against the University of Utah, Brigham Young University and Utah State University. Each team of 4 to5 students prepared a written research report on Energy Solutions then presented a timed ten minute oral presentation on the research. Students Daniel O'Hare, Angelique Pappas, Lauren Seidelman, and Matthew Hardy were selected for Westminster’s CFA team out of an investment strategies and application class where they manage a real stock portfolio.
“Our team excelled in both the written and oral parts of the competition and are to be congratulated on this outstanding accomplishment,” said Robert Patterson, Westminster associate professor of finance.
Westminster’s CFA team will compete against international teams in the Americas Regional Finale to be held April 9-10, 2012 in New York City. For more information visit http://researchchallenge.org/Pages/Default.aspx.
