New Program Prepares Students for Dynamic Decision Making

Salt Lake City, UT - Westminster College has announced the fall 2005 launch of a brand new curriculum for its successful, 25 year-old Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Business Administration in Technology Management (MBATM) programs today.

The programs will be distinguished by interdisciplinary study, a flexible curriculum, fixed pricing, an international trip and preparation in both the professional and personal skill areas needed to succeed in business.

Dean of the Gore School of Business, Dr. Aric Krause, remarked We believe the approach of these new MBA programs is unlike anything in the Intermountain Region; students will choose from an integrated curriculum and inter-related coursework. They will learn about business the way it occurs in the real world, where marketing decisions affect financial decisions and accounting decisions affect sales approaches.

Westminster's new MBA program contrasts a traditional MBA programs sequence of study where the study of business is limited to discipline-specific courses that are taught separately from one another.

The new Westminster MBA programs will include the use of case studies, projects, teamwork and mentoring to provide students with a strong theoretical foundation balanced with real-world practical applications. Beyond the classroom, students can participate in a series of workshops and seminars offered by faculty and industry experts to build skills in networking, negotiating and facilitation and positioning, among others.

One of the program goals is to personalize students' educational experiences to his or her career goals. To accomplish this, each student will be assigned a faculty mentor. Together, they will determine the professional and personal transformation required for each student to reach his or her career goals.

The new curriculum is outcomes based, so students will have portfolios to demonstrate their learning and competencies when they've finished the degree. Both the MBA and the MBATM program require 39 credits. The programs combine online education with classroom learning offered during three full semesters each year to provide a high degree of flexibility for students trying to fit the program into their busy lives.

The new programs are offered with a fixed price which includes all books, fees, materials, travel arrangements for the international trip and access to all workshops, seminars and networking functions. As long as students continue in the program, there will be no annual tuition increases to the fixed price.

Westminster's Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. James Seidelman remarked, Business today is very dynamic. We felt it was important for us to build on our 25-year heritage of providing outstanding advanced business education. In consultation with hundreds of local and national business leaders, we determined that a new MBA program like this one was needed to better prepare MBA students to ultimately become top executives who will lead companies and make business decisions in today's dynamic marketplace.

Applications are now being accepted for fall enrollment in the MBA and MBATM programs. For information visit www.westminstercollege.edu or call 801-832-2200.
