Campus NewsWestminster College to Offer New Master of Science in Nursing Education (MSNED) ProgramTweetFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 16, 2005 SALT LAKE CITY - In an effort to address the shortage of qualified nursing educators both in Utah and nationally, Westminster College will offer a new Master's of Science in Nursing Education (MSNED) degree beginning this fall. The new MSNED program will be the only one in the state that prepares RNs for teaching both at the college level and in staff development roles within all types of health care organizations. In addition to offering a master's degree, the new program has been designed as a two-phase program which will give RNs the option of solely earning a Nurse Educator Certificate during the first five courses (15 credits) of the program. In order to complete the master's degree, students will take two additional semesters of coursework. The Westminster College School of Nursing and Health Sciences has designed the program to teach MSNED students how to enhance student and teacher roles through a variety of courses, seminars, and research opportunities. Dr. Jean Dyer, Dean of the Westminster College School of Nursing and Health Sciences, remarked, Our new MSNED program is a truly unique offering in Utah and the Intermountain West. The program builds on the philosophy that the excellent nursing educator thinks critically, communicates effectively, understands personal values, is sensitive to the values of others and incorporates ethical principles into practice.
