Westminster College Women's Volleyball Team Breaks Into Top Ten

The Westminster Griffins women’s volleyball team made college history this week when they were ranked in the top ten among the Region I teams. The Griffins defeated conference opponents University of Great Falls and Montana Tech in three consecutive matches, and Lewis-Clark State College and University of Montana, Western in four matches to break into the top ten.

In addition to the first ever top ten ranking, several players received high honors and broke new records. Outside Hitter Angie Johnson of Salt Lake City, Utah, was appointed to the All Tournament Team at the University of Montana, Western Invitational and Right Side/Outside Hitter Celestial Alofipo of Kearns, Utah, received an honorable mention. Setter/Defensive Specialist Monica Shorts of Price, Utah, broke the college assist record on September 10th with 51 assists, along with Middle Blocker Bree Riet of Mount Pleasant, Utah, who was named to the Frontier Conference Players of the Week.

In related news, Westminster College has received verbal confirmation and a letter of intent from Junior Olympic Volleyball player Alison Culp that she would join the Griffins the fall semester of 2006. Culp is a 6’ 2” middle blocker who currently plays on the Clearfield High School team and the High Country Volleyball Club.
