Are 7th Graders Smarter Than College Honors Students?

Rowland Hall 7th Graders and Westminster Students Battle For Who Can Pick the Best Stocks

Can 7th graders pick a better stock portfolio than Westminster Honors students? Only time will tell…

In an effort to generate excitement and interest in the stock market, Westminster College’s Honors program and the Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business are hosting a fun and educational competition for 19 7th graders from Rowland Hall-St. Mark’s School and a group of Westminster Honors students. Over a two-month time period, student teams will invest $1 million in simulated stock portfolios and will compete to see who can pick the best portfolio. An online tool will track the portfolios in real-time, and the winning team will be announced at the end of January 2008.

The losing team will have to buy pizza for the winners.

The competition begins Nov. 30, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Center for Financial Analysis in the Gore School of Business building. The competition will kick off with a brief class on stocks and investing for the 7th graders to be taught by Ryan Hessenthaler, the director of the center.
