2002 - 2003 Master of Business Administration in Technology Management
(MBATM)
Admission | Program Requirements
| Course Descriptions
The MBATM program is designed to familiarize the student with business
concepts unique to technology-intensive industries. Students entering
the program are not required to have an educational background in business.
Students receive the same education in business leadership principles
as in the MBA program, but in the context of technology frameworks.
Today's business leader is challenged with enhancing the firm's competitive
position in the face of an increasingly fast global technology cycle.
In order to fulfill this mandate, the firm must learn to harness technology
and to adjust firm processes to support technological change and progress.
The program is designed to develop these skills in business leaders. The
program is specifically designed to:
- Familiarize the student with the unique issues facing technology-based
firms;
- Build models for evaluating and measuring market opportunities and
constraints;
- Develop tools for successful delivery of technology products to the
market;
- Foster critical thinking and analytical tools that allow the effective
leader to adapt quickly and effectively to operating environments;
- Develop the professional business models and skills necessary to lead
in technology sectors.
Admission to the MBATM and Graduate Certificate
in Technology Commercialization Program
Admission to the MBATM and technology certificate program is competitive
and is based on an evaluation of undergraduate course work, GMAT score
and/or relevant professional or managerial experience. Applicants must
submit the following materials to the Office of Admissions:
- A completed application for Graduate Admission form with a $30 application
fee.
- Evidence of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college
or university or international college or university.
- A detailed work summary form outlining professional business or managerial
experience to include relevant job titles, work experience, responsibilities,
and related activities.
- A letter from the applicant's supervisor supporting the student's
commitment to the program. This letter is to show that your employer
recognizes the time commitment that will be required of you in the MBATM
program.
- Three reference letters.
- International students with baccalaureate degrees from countries other
than the United States must present a TOEFL score of 550 or above and
other required admissions material.
- A GMAT Score. The GMAT may be waived if the applicant has:
- At least three years of significant full-time supervisory or managerial
experience after receiving a baccalaureate degree; or
- At least five years of significant full-time supervisory or managerial
experience if the baccalaureate degree has been received within the
last three years.
Upon completion of these steps, application materials are submitted to
the Graduate Admissions Committee. If accepted into the MBATM program,
applicants must submit a $250 tuition deposit in order to guarantee a
place in the entering class.
Note: Students who are accepted into the graduate certificate in technology
commercialization program and wish to transfer into the full MBATM program
must be fully admitted into the MBATM program. Once accepted, students
may be required to complete survey coursework.
