Objectives
The Environmental Studies Program offers an academic minor focused on
the examination of environmentally related issues from a variety of disciplinary
perspectives. With a foundation based in studies in philosophy, history,
and literature, the minor concentrates on social policy, values, and scientific
understanding with respect to the environment and stresses comprehension
and analysis of rapidly changing global and regional environmental conditions.
The curriculum prepares students to enter public and private organizations
that deal with today's pressing environmental matters.
Program Requirements
The academic minor requires completion of 24 credit hours selected from
the anthropology, biology, economics, English, earth systems science,
philosophy, and political science courses listed below. Students must
maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA in courses required for the Environmental
Studies minor. Additional course work is available in the chemistry, history,
and psychology programs, and in selected honors courses.
Students choosing a double major or minor in any of the fields included
within this minor may not apply a course to more than one major or minor
except in the case of BIOL 210 (Environmental Biology, LE).
For course prerequisites please refer to the course descriptions.
