Westminster maintains a significant program of merit-based and need-based financial aid to support new and continuing students, and the college makes vigorous efforts every year to expand this broad-based program of financial aid to provide the maximum in options to students who are serious about their college educations.

The college is totally committed to the philosophy that every qualified student shall have access to a college education, regardless of personal financial circumstances. The College makes every effort to determine each student's personal needs and abilities and to create an individually tailored financial aid package which is appropriate to the student's own special case.

Merit-based aid is available to students who have excelled in their studies or extracurricular activities.

Need-based aid is available and awarded to students whose family contribution is judged to be less than Westminster's total cost, thus demonstrating a need for assistance. These funds are awarded in the form of grants, loans, and employment. In addition, government-subsidized loans may be available to students who do not qualify for other need-based aid, but who still lack the financial resources to pay for their education in full.

Merit-based and need-based financial aid are administered on different criteria; consequently, application procedures and deadlines differ.

Academic Standards

To receive an academic scholarship, a student generally must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA). To receive a grant, a student must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA. To receive merit-based aid, a student must be enrolled full time (at least 12 semester credit hours), except where otherwise specified by the individual award.

Merit-Based Aid (Scholarships)

Merit-based aid is available at the college as a tuition award. Scholarships are awarded to recognize academic achievement. Consequently, these scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit and do not have to be repaid.

Some scholarships are established to recognize special groups such as non-traditional students, senior women, part-time students, and others. Although specific criteria vary, scholarship applicants are generally required to maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Scholarship awards are made for the academic year only (fall and spring semesters). The total award will be divided equally between fall and spring semesters.

Annually Funded

Funds for these scholarships are provided by individuals and/or organizations to support qualified students on a year-to-year basis only. These scholarships are established in accordance with directions and requests received from the donors who establish them and provide the funds.

The annually funded scholarships available to students are listed below:

Kim T. Adamson Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior students with financial need. Preference given to students whose parent(s) are in full-time law enforcement or active duty military. Students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Dr. James D. Allen Memorial Fund Scholarship--Awarded to juniors and seniors in good standing who are specializing in English literature. Applicants must be aware of Dr. James D. Allen's academic contributions and be willing to meet with Mrs. Mabel D. Allen, Salt Lake City.

Alumni Association Scholarship--Awarded to students who are related to an alumnus/alumna of Westminster. Recipient must be active in on- or off-campus volunteer activities and must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.

James William and Katherine Nicol Andrews Scholarship Fund--Awarded to students with a minimum 3.0 GPA, with an accounting or business major. Preference is given to accounting students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year.

Samuel Arentz and Mary Alice Arentz Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to a student active in campus music programs with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Barbara Arnold Memorial Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to Education majors who have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA in their work and who are enrolled on a full-time basis.

Isabelle W. Arnold Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior, or senior female students with high academic standing and financial need.

Bamberger Foundation Scholarship--Awarded to a student majoring in business. Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Bank One (Utah) Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to a business major who is maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA, with preference to a student with demonstrated financial need.

Ross Beason Memorial Scholarship for Full-Time Students--Awarded on the basis of character, need, and merit. Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and may not receive any other scholarship during the same year.

Ross Beason Memorial Scholarship for Part-Time Students--Awarded on the basis of character, need, and merit. Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, enroll for 6 or more hours each semester and may not receive any other scholarship during the same year.

Becton Dickinson Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior nursing students with at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA who demonstrate financial need.

Jack and Nancy Behnken Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to students on the basis of character, financial need, and academic achievement, to students with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Peter and Dagmar Behrens Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior full-time students, with preference to students with financial need. Students must maintain minimum 3.0 GPA.

Irene Bunch Belden Memorial Nursing Scholarship--Awarded to nursing students who have completed their freshman year, who demonstrate financial need, and who have at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA.

Dr. Bruce Bemis Mathematics and Science Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to juniors and seniors majoring in mathematics, computer science, or physical science who plan to pursue careers in those fields. Students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and be enrolled on at least a half-time basis.

M. Lynn Bennion Urban Education Scholarship--Awarded to a student in the School of Education who will conduct his/her student teaching in urban schools, and who plans to teach in urban schools. Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Olive Berger Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to a sophomore nursing student with financial need. Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Katharine V. Biele Nursing Scholarship--Awarded to a student majoring in nursing, who is enrolled at least half time.

Bintz Scholarship--Awarded to half-time non-traditional students to assist with textbook costs.

Berenice Jewett Bradshaw Faculty Scholarship--Awarded to continuing students with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Harrison S. Brothers Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to students who model leadership in their college and community, and who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Lyle and Marjorie Campbell Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior full-time students based on academic achievement, with preference to students who show financial need. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Don-Kay-Clay Cash Foundation Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in engineering, science, or business, and who shows financial need.

Castle Foundation Nursing Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to a nursing student who is a Utah resident, from a low to moderate income family, and who is a minority student.

Chivas Regal Young Entrepreneur Scholarship--Awarded to Business majors who are at least 21 years of age. Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Christ United Methodist Church Scholarship--Awarded to non-traditional students who maintain a 3.0 Westminster College cumulative GPA, have financial need, and enroll for at least six hours each semester.

Dr. Dean K. and Helen S. Christensen Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to a female nursing student who is a single parent, and has at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA.

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) Foundation Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior students who are of the LDS religion, who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to students with financial need.

William Clark Accounting Program Scholarship--Awarded to a senior majoring in accounting with a 3.5 GPA or above who demonstrates financial need.

Class of 1987 Senior Class Scholarship--Awarded to a degree-seeking senior with at least 90 hours completed at Westminster. Candidates must be enrolled for at least six credit hours each semester and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Candidates will be required to write an essay on the benefits of attending a small, liberal arts college, what they feel the college has done for them, and what they have done for Westminster College.

College Club Scholarship--Awarded to senior women who have a minimum 3.0 GPA and who exemplify character and an interest in community activities.

Amanda Coller Memorial Education Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to a full-time student who is an education major, with an excellent academic record.

Thomas Spencer Colton Scholarship--Awarded to full-time liberal arts majors, or students who have a humanities emphasis, and have demonstrated interest in public service. Students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Judy Hagen-Coulter Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior non-traditional student with at least a 3.0 GPA majoring in either business or social science.

Daughters of Minos Scholarship--Applicants must be Utah residents, of Greek descent, and be active in the Greek Orthodox Church. Sophomore, junior or senior class standing and at least a 2.3 GPA also required.

Ronald W. and Tracey B. Daw Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior full-time students who maintain at least a 3.5 GPA. Preference will be given to students with financial need.

Lawrence T. and Janet T. Dee Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to liberal arts majors, or students who have a humanities emphasis, and have demonstrated interest in public service.

Deloitte & Touche Scholarship--Awarded to an MBA student who has an accounting emphasis within the graduate program, and plans on pursuing a career in public accounting. Student must maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA.

William H. and Jeanne E. Dumas Scholarship--Awarded to a student who demonstrates financial need and is enrolled on at least a half-time basis.

George and Dolores Dorï¿© Eccles Foundation Scholarship--For traditional-age freshman students. Selection involves a combination of these factors: high school GPA, ACT and/or SAT scores, and date of high school graduation.

Tom and Susan Ellison Scholarship--Awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior student who has achieved academic excellence. Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Leslie Eskuche Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior full-time students who have achieved academic excellence. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Leslie Eskuche Endowed Nursing Scholarship--Awarded to a nursing student with a 2.5 GPA or above.

Lottie Felkner Scholarship--Awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior nursing student with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA who demonstrates financial need.

Morris S. and Barbara Ludwig Ferguson Scholarship--Awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior who demonstrates financial need and is enrolled on at least a half-time basis.

Fieldstone Foundation Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior student of high moral character from one of the traditional Protestant religions, with preference given to students from evangelical faiths, who demonstrates community service through volunteer activities.

First Security Foundation Scholarship--Student must be a junior or senior majoring in banking or finance and be a resident of the Intermountain area.

Francis F. Fitzgerald Aviation Scholarship--Awarded to an aviation major who is a U. S. citizen with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA who demonstrates financial need.

Follett College Bookstores Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior students who are full-time and have strong academic records. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Ralph A. Forbes, Jr. Memorial Music Scholarship--Awarded to music minors who demonstrate exceptional talent, dedication and commitment. Preference given to students with financial need.

Robert J. and Linda Frankenberg Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to continuing students who are actively employed, have demonstrated financial need, and at least a 3.0 GPA.

Jacob Geerlings Scholarship--Awarded to students who are liberal arts majors and who demonstrate financial need.

Pat and Virginia Gibbons Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to students on the basis of character, financial need, and academic achievement. Students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Dick Goode Accounting Scholarship--Awarded to a senior majoring in accounting with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Roxey Lee Gordon Nursing Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to full-time nursing students who show financial need.

Gore Mathematics and Science Scholarships--Awarded to students with mathematics and/or science majors. Scholarship is renewable each year upon re-application and with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Gore Music Scholarship--Awarded to students with a declared music minor. Scholarship is renewable each year upon re-application and with a 3.0 GPA in music courses.

Val A. and Edith D. Green Foundation Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior, or senior undergraduate students in the Gore School of Business, who are marketing majors.

Gladys Mary Greenlaw Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to full-time students who are education majors and show financial need. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Joe Gunderson Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to a student in good academic standing. Preference will be given to a student with a documented learning disability.

Ann Hansen Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to an economics major, based on academic achievement.

William Randolph Hearst Scholarship--Awarded to a student who shows academic excellence and financial need. Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Henry C. and Ruth Hecker Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student who shows financial need, is working 20 hours per week in a Work-Study position, has a strong religious background, and at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA. Preference given to recent immigrants to the U.S., or to students who are first generation members of immigrant families.

Frank M. Helm Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior students who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to students with financial need.

J. Allen Helm Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to a student who demonstrates financial need and has at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Theo Swan Hendee Memorial Scholarship Fund--Awarded to a student who has completed the freshman year and has a 3.0 GPA or better.

John B. and Jean M. Henkels Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to full-time students on the basis of character, financial need, and academic achievement. Preference given to students in education, social science, or pre-professional degrees. Students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Hilda Chapman Holbrook Endowed Nursing Scholarship--Awarded to a student majoring in nursing who is enrolled on at least a half-time basis.

Jackson Howard Foundation Endowed Scholarship--Established in 1997 by the Howard Foundation. Awarded to students who are active in campus or community activities, and who show financial need. Preference given to students who will be participating in an approved international travel/study program. Requirement: at least a 3.0 GPA; full-time enrollment.

Jane C. Ingram Endowed Writer's Scholarship--Awarded to a junior or senior English major who shows financial need, and who has at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Edward N. and Jean S. Juhan Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to qualified students who have exhibited outstanding leadership, both in college and community involvement. Preference given to students with financial need.

Louise Kelly Scholarship--Awarded to students with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Preference will be given to Native Americans or students from Springville, Utah.

Kennecott Scholarship--Established by the Kennecott Utah Copper Division. Five scholarships are awarded to science majors, and five scholarships are awarded to students majoring in other areas. Students must have a least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Key Bank Business Scholarship--Awarded to a senior on the basis of need and academic accomplishment. The recipient must be a Utah resident progressing toward a degree in accounting, economics, finance, or management.

William F. and Helen Greenwood Koch Woman's Board Endowment Fund--Recipient must be a non-traditional student and enroll for at least 6 credit hours per semester.

Demetrios Kyremes Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to sophomores, juniors or seniors majoring in a business field. The student must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA; financial need will be considered.

Patricia Pattison Lakness Scholarship--Awarded to a female student who provides responsible leadership in on-campus activities. Scholarship is based primarily on character and need.

George L. Lemich Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to a nursing student, with preference given to a student with high academic standing and demonstrated financial need. Student must be at least half-time status.

Masonic Foundation 2002 Scholarship--Awarded to full-time science majors with exceptional academic records, with preference to students who volunteer in the community.

Jane F. McCarthey Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to full-time sophomore, junior, or senior students who demonstrate financial need. Students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

James C. McNeil Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to a full- or part-time non-traditional student who shows financial need.

Nibs Meldrum Aviation Scholarship--Awarded to senior aviation majors, based on academic achievement and demonstrated financial need.

Louis Alan Merz Scholarship--Awarded to an aviation major with at least a 2.5 GPA who demonstrates financial need and is involved in aviation activities through the college.

Herbert I. and Elsa B. Michael Scholarship--Awarded to a student with a 3.0 GPA or above.

Doris Edwards Miller Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to students who are veterans of the U.S. military, or who are children of veterans, on the basis of character and financial need.

Joe Muscolino Music Scholarship--Awarded to music minors with financial need, with preference given to students with a jazz emphasis, upon recommendation by the college's Director of Music. Students must have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA.

Native American Scholarship--Applicants must be of Native American descent, have at least a 2.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

Robert and Lorraine Nickerson Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior full-time students who have minimum 3.0 GPA.

James and Susan Sullivan Niles Scholarship--Awarded to a student who has completed his/her freshman year, is a U. S. citizen, and has at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Nordstrom Cultural Diversity Scholarship--Awarded to a junior or senior student who participates in off-campus activities that promote cultural diversity. Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and be enrolled full-time.

Laura S. and Chester W. Nortz Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to a liberal arts major who is at least sophomore status, and who is of high moral character and is a member of the Protestant faith. Preference given to a student who has demonstrated community service through volunteer activities. Student must have a minimum 3.20 cumulative GPA.

School of Nursing Alumni Association Scholarship--Awarded in alternate years to undergraduate nursing students (in their junior or senior year) and graduate MSN nursing students. Students must maintain minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference given to students with financial need.

William Orchow and Janet Martineau Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior full-time students who have a demonstrated financial need. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Pacificorp Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior, or senior students who have a 3.0 GPA or above.

Paez-Garcia-Schow Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to a student of Hispanic and/or Norwegian descent majoring in accounting or nursing, or planning to enter the public health field.

Gus Papanikolis Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to a business student with a 3.0 GPA or better.

Scott S. Parker Scholarship--Awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior full-time student who has a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Junior A.B. and Mary Frances Peak Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to a junior or senior majoring in nursing. Both financial need and dedication to the nursing profession will be considered. The minimum GPA is a 2.50.

James E. "Pete" Petersen Scholarship--Awarded to non-traditional women, preference given to single parents. Students must have a 3.0 GPA or above and enroll for at least 6 credit hours per semester.

Marie Petersen/Sigma Chi Scholarship--Awarded to a male student who is active in on-campus activities and has a 3.0 GPA or better.

Jane Dooly Gile Porter Scholarship--Awarded to students pursuing nursing degrees who show academic excellence and have demonstrated financial need.

Questar Scholarship--Awarded to students majoring in physical sciences or mathematics who have cumulative GPAs of at least 3.0 and who demonstrate financial need.

Dr. Barry Quinn and Dr. Bob Warnock Endowed Science Scholarship--Awarded to junior and senior science majors who show financial need, with preference given to students majoring in the life sciences.

Reader's Digest Endowed Scholarship Fund--Awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA who comes from a middle-income family.

Regence Blue Cross/Blue Shield Scholarship--Awarded to a nursing student with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Alvin and Helene Richer Academic Excellence Scholarship--Awarded to an incoming freshman student who is in the top 5% of his/her high school graduating class. The scholarship is renewable provided the student maintains at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA.

George W. Roper Aviation Scholarship--Awarded to junior aviation majors, based on academic achievement and financial need.

Samuel Rosenfeld Memorial Scholarship--Recipient must have a 3.0 GPA or better and demonstrate financial need.

Rev. A. Walton Roth Scholarship--Awarded to a junior who has outstanding leadership abilities and potential and who is interested in the field of religion. Selection is based on high academic achievement, involvement in campus activities, and demonstration of high standards of moral conduct.

Katherine E. Rouillard Scholarship--Awarded to a full-time student on the basis of character, need, and merit who is a sophomore, junior, or senior, and who has a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Sherry Sailer Theater and Performing Arts Scholarship--Awarded to a student who demonstrates an interest in theater and performing arts. Student must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Preference given to students minoring in theater arts.

Andrew J. and Carolyn Schilly Scholarship--Awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior full-time student to recognize high academic standing, with preference given to a student with financial need. Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

St. Mark's Auxiliary Nursing Scholarship--Awarded to a junior or senior with at least a 3.3 GPA majoring in nursing. Both financial need and dedication to the nursing profession will be considered in the selection process.

Kenneth B. Shaw Scholarship--Awarded to a student who has completed the freshman year and has a 3.0 GPA or better.

Dorothy Joyce and Daniel A. Singleton Scholarship Fund--Awarded to sophomores, juniors or seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Ruth Skeeters Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to a student who demonstrates financial need and has at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

G. Raymond and Edna K. Smith Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to upperclass full-time students who have at least a 3.0 GPA.

Sodhexho Scholarship--Awarded by the College's food service provider to on-campus residential students who have demonstrated campus and community involvement.

William and Anna Spiess Memorial Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to students who are noteworthy scholars with good scholastic potential majoring in art or premedical studies with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA who need financial aid.

John Stauffer Honors Scholarship--Awarded to a senior majoring in chemistry who has a minimum 3.5 GPA.

Sterling Scholar Scholarship--Awarded to Sterling Scholar winners and runners-up in the five regional competitions throughout the state of Utah. Winners receive a full tuition scholarship; runners-up receive a one-half tuition scholarship. May be awarded for four years if the student maintains a 3.0 GPA.

Earl W. Stouffer Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to a student who demonstrates a seriousness of purpose and the ability to recognize the need to be a helper rather than a receiver of the good things in life.

Dr. W. C. Swanson Family Foundation Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior, or senior students in the School of Education, with at least a 3.0 GPA and who demonstrate financial need.

Truman and Henriette Thaxton Nursing Scholarship--Awarded to full-time nursing students who demonstrate financial need.

Dr. Robert G. and Marian Hayes Thompson Memorial Nursing Scholarship--Awarded to undergraduate nursing students, with preference given to students with high academic standing and financial need. Recipient must have at least a3.0 cumulative GPA.

Tingey Construction Co., Inc. Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior full-time students who have a demonstrated financial need. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Joyce Topham Endowed Education Scholarship--Awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior education major, who shows financial need and has at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Verl R. Topham Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior, or senior students who are still "undecided" regarding a declared major field of study, with preference given to students with financial need and who graduated from a high school located in a small community.

Dr. Leland A. Underkofler Scholarship--Awarded to sophomores, juniors, or seniors with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Utah T. H. Bell Teaching Scholarship--Awarded by the state of Utah to a student who is a Utah resident, who has declared his/her intention to complete a degree and teaching certificate, and who intends to teach in the Utah public schools. Requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Frank Kennedy Vernoy Scholarship--Awarded to non-traditional students who show financial need and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference is given to single parents.

Margaret Bierce Waters Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to a needy and deserving student who has a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Anne S. Weeks Endowed Scholarship--Students must show and maintain academic excellence and meritorious conduct in campus life activities annually.

Westminster College Foundation Board Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior full-time students who have at least a 3.0 GPA. Student must be actively involved in community or volunteer service. Preference given to students whose parents or siblings are Westminster College alumni.

Westminster College Woman's Ruth Skeeters Scholarship--Awarded to full-time students who show academic achievement, have vocational objectives, and are U.S. citizens. Recipients must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Westminster College Woman's Board Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to a student with a minimum of 3.0 GPA who shows academic achievement and has a well-defined career objective.

Dr. Burton C. J. Wheatlake Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to a junior student who has exhibited outstanding volunteer leadership in both college and community involvement. Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Burton K. Wheatlake Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to full-time junior or senior students who have shown volunteer and community service involvement, and have demonstrated financial need.

Florence L. Wheatlake Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to a student who demonstrates musical performing ability and participates in a departmental performing organization. Applicants must be United States citizens and have a 3.0 GPA or better.

Don and Dona Wheeler Endowed Scholarship--Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior full-time student who has a minimum 3.0 GPA.

W.I.C.F. Challenge Grant Scholarship--Awarded to a student with at least a 3.0 GPA who has completed his/her freshman year and who demonstrates financial need.

Claudine Corbett Wilcox Endowed Music Scholarship--Awarded to a music minor, upon the recommendation of the college's Director of Music. Student must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Stephen Wilfert Memorial Soccer Scholarship--Applicants must be Utah residents involved in the Westminster soccer program who demonstrate financial need.

William Y. K. and Gloria Wong Scholarship--Awarded to a student with at least a 3.0 GPA who has participated in a college-approved community service project.

Steven K. Wright Scholarship--Awarded to a full- or part-time student who shows financial need, with preference given to a non-traditional student who is a single parent. Recipient must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Sinze Wu Memorial Scholarship--Awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior student, with preference given to a student with financial need and high academic standing.

Leah Wyer Scholarship--Awarded to senior women who have a minimum 3.0 GPA and who exemplify character and an interest in community activities.

Zions Bancorporation Endowed Business Scholarship--Awarded to students in the Gore School of Business who have demonstrated financial need. Students must have minimum 3.0 GPA.

General Scholarship Fund

In addition to the annually funded scholarships described above, the college maintains a General Scholarship Fund that consists of a series of financial gifts made to Westminster by individuals and families who support the college. The General Scholarship Fund is used to support the Institutional Scholarships awarded each year. Other Scholarships

The college also maintains a series of special scholarships funded by a variety of organizations that prefer to select the recipients for the awards each year. In most cases, these special scholarships have their own application forms, which are available through the Office of Financial Aid.

Air Force ROTC Scholarship--Available on a competitive basis for 2, 2 1/2, 3, 3 1/2, or 4 years. Provides full tuition, reimbursement for textbooks, and a monthly allowance.

Navy ROTC Scholarship--Available on a competitive basis for 2 to 4 years. Provides full tuition, reimbursement for textbooks, and a monthly allowance.

United Presbyterian Scholarship--Awarded to members of the Presbyterian Church. Students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA.

Other Financial Aid

Church loans based on availability of funds may be obtained through churches maintaining an affiliation with the college (Presbyterian, United Church of Christ). In most cases, these loans are restricted to members of the respective denominations.

Information on these loans may be obtained from the appropriate minister or from the Office of Financial Aid.

The college also maintains a loan fund from which amounts of money may be borrowed under emergency conditions for short periods of time to meet school-related expenses (based on availability of funds).

Federal Stafford Student Loan Program

Degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply for Federal Stafford Student Loan funds. Banks and other lending institutions have traditionally lent money to students to finance their education.

First-year undergraduate students may borrow up to $2,625 per academic year. Second-year undergraduate students may borrow up to $3,500 per academic year. Undergraduates past the second year may borrow up to $5,500 per academic year to a total aggregate maximum of $23,000 for all undergraduate education. Graduate students may borrow up to $8,500 per academic year to a total aggregate maximum of $65,500.

Applicants must apply for need-based financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Office of Financial Aid will then determine the amount of a loan that the student may qualify for and certify student status to the lending institution of the student's choice.

Federal Parent Loan For Undergraduate Students (PLUS)

This loan is available to parents of dependent undergraduate students. The parents must have no adverse credit history. Parents may borrow up to the cost of education (budget costs minus any financial aid received) and must use the loan funds solely to pay educational costs. The PLUS is a variable interest rate loan that is currently capped at 9%, and parents make monthly principal and interest payments beginning at the time the loan is disbursed. The loan may be obtained through a participating lender (banks, credit unions, and savings and loan associations). For further information concerning this program, contact the Financial Aid Office.

Student Employment

The Federal work-study program makes awards based on financial need. Students are given the opportunity to work part-time, on-campus, while attending school. They can work full-time during the summer and other vacation periods. Under this program, the college pays a portion of the student wages and the government pays the remainder.

Students with Federal work study eligibility have the opportunity to select from a listing of job openings on campus for interviews and hiring. Students are paid every two weeks for work performed until they have earned the total amount of their Federal work study award for the academic year. There are also positions available for summer work.

Student Budgets

Student budgets vary depending upon whether the students are dependent or independent, where they live, and the number of credit hours for which they enroll. Determination of Need

To determine the financial need of a student, calculate College Costs (Student Budget) and apply Family Contribution against them. If the Family Contribution is less than the College Costs, financial need is established. The Family Contribution is determined by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), including information about income, assets, and non-taxable income.

Satisfactory Progress Requirements For Receipt of Student Financial Aid

Students must maintain satisfactory progress in their academic studies in order to receive Title IV (Federal) student financial aid funds and institutionally funded financial aid. Title IV (Federal) student financial aid includes the following programs:

Students Receiving Student Financial Aid Funds

Full-time and part-time (undergraduate and graduate) students must complete at least 70 percent of the semester credit hours for which they enrolled to be making satisfactory progress. Any class that appears on the academic transcript as "graded" will be counted toward total credit hours enrolled. Transcript grades include the following:

Additionally, once a student attains sophomore or second-year status, (28 hours and above), the student must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0.

If satisfactory progress requirements are not met, the student will be determined ineligible to receive Title IV student financial aid funds.

Timetable For Review

Students' records will be reviewed at the end of each academic year to determine whether they are in compliance with the Satisfactory Progress Policy. The academic year ends with May Term and will include any period of time during the academic year the student was enrolled.

Total Semesters Student Financial Aid Funds

Undergraduate students are eligible to receive financial aid funds for a maximum of twelve (12) semesters while in full-time status, with each summer counted as one-half semester. Graduate students are eligible to receive eight (8) semesters of aid while in full-time status, with each summer counting as one-half semester. Part-time students' eligibility will be extended proportionately. Students pursuing a second undergraduate degree are eligible for four (4) additional semesters after receiving the first bachelor's degree.

Reinstatement

After becoming ineligible for student financial aid funds, a student can be considered for receipt of financial aid only when the completion percentage and grade point average requirements have been met.

Notification

The Financial Aid Office will notify by letter any student receiving financial assistance who does not meet the satisfactory progress requirement and has been determined to be ineligible for financial aid. The notice will be addressed to the student's most current local address on file at the college. It is the student's responsibility to inform the Registrar's Office of a correct mailing address at all times.

Right to Appeal and Appeal Process

Any student who has been determined to be ineligible for financial aid has the right to appeal. The following appeal process will be utilized:

• The student appealing the satisfactory progress decision will meet with an Associate Director of Financial Aid to discuss the circumstances which caused the student not to be able to meet the satisfactory progress requirements. The Associate Director of Financial Aid will give a decision at the conclusion of the meeting.
• If the appeal is not approved, and the student wishes to proceed further with the appeal, the student will meet with the Director of Financial Aid. The Director of Financial Aid will give a decision, in writing, within three (3) working days of the meeting.
• The final appeal may be addressed (either in person or in writing) to the Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid Committee, which will give a decision, in writing, within three (3) working days of the meeting.
  

Return of Title IV Federal Financial Aid Funds

Federal regulations govern the return of Title IV (federal) financial aid funds that have been disbursed for a student who completely withdraws from college during a term, payment period, or period of enrollment. The regulations operate under the principle that a student "earns" his/her financial aid based on the period of time he/she remained enrolled.

Effective July 1, 2000, Westminster College adopted the new "Return of Title IV Funds" regulations, which are part of the updated Higher Education Amendments of 1998.

During the first 60% of the enrollment period, a student "earns" Title IV federal financial aid funds in direct proportion to the length of time he/she remains enrolled (that is, the percentage of time during the enrollment period that the student remained enrolled is the percentage of disbursable aid for that period that the student earned). A student who withdraws from college beyond the 60% point has "earned" all Title IV federal financial aid for the period.

Unearned Title IV funds, other than Federal Work-Study earnings, must be returned to the federal financial aid programs.Unearned aid is the amount of disbursed Title IV aid that exceeds the amount of Title IV aid earned under the formula.

The responsibility to repay unearned Title IV aid is shared by the institution and the student in proportion to the aid each is assumed to possess.

The institution's share is the lesser of:

• the total amount of unearned aid; or
• institutional charges multiplied by the percentage of unearned aid.
  

The student's share is the difference between the total unearned amount and the institution's share.

Institutional Refund Policy

Institutional refunds are determined on the date that add/drop or withdrawal forms are completed and processed in the Registrar's Office. Refer to the appropriate class schedule for the specific refund schedule for each semester. All institutional charges (tuition, fees, and room and board) are refunded based on the refund schedule.

Miscellaneous Information

Notification of Award--Students submitting applications and other supporting documentation are notified by mail whether they will receive aid.

Changes in Financial Status--Students are responsible for reporting any change in family financial resources from extra income, gifts, or outside aid. If the additions reduce the financial need, the award will be reduced. Failure to repo
