Objectives
The Music Program provides students with an opportunity to study in an
area that has been an integral part of civilization for over 3,000 years.
The music minor offers private lessons on all instruments and voice, performing
ensembles, and academic music courses in theory, history, conducting,
and ear training. Professional musicians teach and perform each semester
for the music department. Two concert series bring professional artists
to campus year-round. Affiliations with several major arts organizations,
including the Utah Symphony & Opera and Jazz at the Sheraton, provide
our students with excellent opportunities to hear professional musicians
on a regular basis. The Music Program provides a rich musical experience
and fosters excellence and passion in performance for all students.
Program Requirements
An audition is required to become a Music Minor. Students must choose
a major instrument to audition into the music program (piano, voice, guitar,
etc.) and auditions are held year-round. Call the Music Department at
832-2435 for more information.
Students with transfer credits need to complete a minimum of nine hours
of music courses, including two semesters of a performing ensemble, at
Westminster College in order to fulfill the requirements for a minor in
music. A minimum 2.5 GPA in music courses must be maintained for the music
minor.
For course prerequisites, please refer to the course description.
