Program Goals
The Business major is designed to give students the skills and knowledge necessary
to be successful in today's dynamic business environment. Students get exposure
to all functional areas of business, preparing them to manage large and small
businesses. Students choose an area of specialization to get a greater focused
understanding of one functional area in addition to the general preparation.
In addition to demonstrating knowledge in their areas of specialization, students
majoring in Business:
- Understand the context, nature, role, and significance of management activities
as undertaken by managers in a range of organizations.
- Demonstrate the use of key financial and management accounting techniques
to contribute to the effective financial management of business.
- Demonstrate strategic and ethical awareness, an understanding of the process
of change in organizations, and analyze and evaluate options open to organizations
involved in the process of formulating business strategies.
- Recognize the various types of business liabilities, their interrelationships,
and substantive legal rules in relation to business.
- Demonstrate an ability to apply business-specific tools of research, analysis,
decision-making and evaluation to a wide range of scenarios, cases, and problems.
Students majoring in Business may opt for a Bachelor of Science in Business
degree or, with the completion of an approved minor (see listing below), a Bachelor
of Arts degree. The Business curriculum provides students the opportunity to
concentrate in a specific area of business or the flexibility to choose electives
across a variety of business disciplines. Concentrations are available in accounting,
finance, human resource management, information resource management, management,
marketing, and general business.
Program Requirements
Students must maintain a minimum 2.3 GPA in business program coursework to
be eligible for a Bachelor's degree in Business.
