Why Study Chemistry at Westminster?

Westminster’s chemistry program incorporates modern laboratory methodologies, techniques, and equipment to advance students critical thinking and problem solving skills.  Students who study chemistry learn to appreciate chemical theories and principles that underlie most of the science world.

The Chemistry program provides preparation for a professional career or graduate study in chemistry and an understanding of basic chemistry concepts and experience in laboratory operations for those planning careers in related fields. It also provides pre-professional study for those preparing for careers in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, and nursing; along with those who wish to teach at the secondary level.

• Use advanced research laboratories and equipment in the new Meldrum Science Center that mimic research laboratories found in the industry.
• Small class sizes in integrated laboratory classrooms provide the safety and equipment of typical laboratories, in addition to tables arranged in the style of a classroom.
• Develop research skills from hands-on experience in computational, quantitative, biological, and environmental chemistry.
• Master basic chemical concepts and have knowledge of advanced chemical principles across a broad spectrum of chemistry disciplines.
• Take May Term classes in beer brewing, crime scene investigation, or travel to Hawaii and learn the islands natural science.
