Service Learning Scholars

Welcome to the Service Learning Scholar Program! The Westminster College Service Learning Scholar Program is student focused recognizing students committed to combining academic learning with commitment and civic engagement.

 

Enroll

Review the Requirement Form, complete the official Application Form, and attach a 1-page essay identifying your motivations for enrolling in the Service Learning Scholar Program. Drop it off in the Bassis Center or e-mail the Center for Civic Engagement at civicengagement@westminstercollege.edu.

You must be able to complete two semesters in the program to apply.

 

Service Learning Classes

We encourage you to take service learning classes.

 

Hours of service

Complete the required hours of service for your scholar level

  • Griffin - 1000 hrs

  • Gold - 500 hrs

  • Silver - 300 hrs

  • Bronze - 100 hrs

 

Reflection

Keep a reflective journal and service time sheet during your participation in the Service Learning Scholar program. There will be a reflection reception at the end of each semester to share your reflections and turn in your journal and time sheet.  Please reflect according to at least two of the college wide learning goals.

 

Attend Service Learning Scholar Meetings

Attendance at Service Learning Scholar meetings is required. Participants will meet at least once a semester to discuss ideas, ask questions, solve problems, brainstorm, and facilitate integration of academic studies with civic engagement.

 

WOW Project

All Serivce Learning Scholars are required to complete a WOW project. This project is designed with a faculty advisor in the student’s major area.

 

Conditions

You must submit time sheets and a reflection jounral each semester.  Failure to turn in time sheets/journals for two consectuive semesters will result in removal from the program.
