The Indian Walk-In Center (IWIC) is in need of volunteers for a feast that is taking place in celebration of Thanksgiving. The event is taking place on Saturday, November 21st @ noon. The volunteers may arrive at the Indian Walk-In Center at 120 W 1300 S anytime, at 11 AM would be wonderful but the feast will start at 12:00 PM (noon) and end when the food runs out. The volunteer would help with set up, serving food, clean up and keeping everything in order. Last year the IWIC was able to feed 800 people, please come down and help make this just as successful.

11/21-11/25 - Neighborhood House Soil Restoration Project

Neighborhood House is a support center for children and adults located along the Jordan River at 1050 South 500 West in Salt Lake City (http://www.nhutah.org/). The soil on the plot of land owned by Neighborhood House is high in lead and petrochemicals making it unsuitable to further develop into gardens, orchards, play areas for children, etc. Jacob Hansen is working to help Neighborhood House by raising soil fertility and drainage through a simple soil building and passive rainwater harvesting, planting perennial crops to build soil naturally using minimal amounts of water. Raising soil fertility helps binds lead and other toxic chemicals within the soil making landscapes more accessible to food production and safer for humans and wildlife. This valuable ecological and educational site will be unusable until we develop a clear strategy to caring for the soil, the basis of land health.

Jacob will be working:
Saturday November 21 from 10 -4 clearing brush from the site
Monday November 23 from 10-4 plowing the site
Tuesday November 24 from 10-4 planting seeds and laying straw
Wednesday November 25 from 10-4 planting seeds and laying straw
Call Jacob at 801-703-4252 for more information or to make arrangements for service.
