2010 Commencement Information for Graduates

Time: 1:45 PM (Graduates must arrive by 1:00 PM)
Location: E Center | 3200 S. Decker Lake Drive (2200 West)

What You Should Know:

  • Address changes: Be sure to keep the Registrar informed of any address changes so you can receive up-to-date information.
  • Absentia: If you are not able to participate in the ceremony, you must notify the Registrar in writing and verify your address.
  • Transcripts: Be sure any transcripts of transfer credit, CLEP scores, etc. reach the Registrar's Office by mid-April (if finishing by April 2010) or May 15 (if finishing in May 2010).
  • Cap, gown & announcements: Come to the Graduation Fair on TBA from 11am-7pm in the Shaw Center.  Here you can order announcements, make sure you are cleared for graduation, visit with the Alumni Office and learn about graduate programs.  Cap and Gown distribution process will be TBA (Noon-6pm), TBA (Noon-7pm), TBA (11am-7pm) and TBA (11am-7pm) at the Adamson Alumni House, 1750 South 1200 East (enter through lower west door).  Be sure to take the online graduating student survey in Mid-May and print the final page to bring with you to pick up your cap and gown.
  • Ceremony: There is no rehearsal for Commencement.  Graduates have received their information brochure with ceremony details. 
  • Guests: No tickets are required for the ceremony and you may invite as many guests as you wish. Seating is "first come, first seated."  We strongly suggest that you coordinate with your family and friends before the ceremony as to where you will meet at the conclusion of Commencement.
  • Parking: Please allow guests enough time to be seated before 1:40 PM, as the processional starts at 1:45 PM.
  • Walking disabilities: Graduates for whom walking in the processional may be difficult should contact Student Services, 801-832-2230, in advance to discuss alternative arrangements. FAMILIES USING WHEELCHAIRS WILL NEED TO ARRIVE EARLY, AS THERE IS LIMITED SEATING TOWARD THE FRONT (additional wheelchair seating is available in the upper level). 
  • Diplomas: Diplomas will be available for December 2009 and April 2010 graduates at graduation. Diplomas for May 2010 graduates will be ready in mid-June and for August 2010 graduates, mid-August.
  • Honors: For Bachelor candidates, honors are based on their cumulative GPAs at the end of Spring term. Honors require a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 with 60 hours at Westminster College OR a transfer GPA of 3.5 or above and 35 graded hours at Westminster with a GPA of 3.5 or above. GPAs are NOT rounded for honors. Students who have a 3.5 GPA or above at the end of Spring semester but still need May term and/or Summer term hours to qualify for honors will be noted with honors in the program. There will be a general program note saying: "Honors designations are subject to change based on calculation of final GPAs."
  • Graduate survey: Take the online graduate survey in May and tell us about your educational experience at Westminster. Your input is important, so please complete the survey before cap and gown distribution process. 
  • Good Standing Accounts: Your cap, gown and diploma will be released only if your account with the college is in good standing. Be sure all library, accounting, and parking holds are cleared. Also, please remember to complete a loan exit interview before the cap and gown distribution process.
  • Photography: Gammell Photography will photograph all graduates as they receive their diplomas. A free proof will be viewable on-line within two days of Commencement. There is no obligation to purchase a photo.  www.gammell.com/graduations - then search the word WESTMINSTER 2010  (use all-CAPS) and you should find it! 
  • Related Events:
  1. TBA - A Senior Dinner is coming this year.  Details to follow from the Alumni Office.
  2. TBA (11am-7pm) is the cap/gown distribution process at the Adamson Alumni House, 1750 South 1200 East (lower level, enter from west).
  3. TBA at 6pm is the M.Ed dinner in the Tanner Atrium, EEJ.
  4. The MSN celebration is TBA. 
  5. TBA at 6pm is the MBA Pinning Ceremony at the Vieve Gore Concert Hall in EEJ.
  6. TBA at 6pm is the MPC "Pen"ning Ceremony at the home of the program director.  
  7. TBA at 5pm is the Nurses Pinning Ceremony at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral (231 E. 100 S.). 
  8. Saturday, May 29 will be the Graduation Brunch on campus from 10:00 AM to Noon.  You will receive four free tickets when you pick up your cap/gown.  Additional tickets are $10 and can be purchased at gown distribution or at the brunch.
