Summer Challenge Camps Take Teens of the West into the Worlds of High-Tech Finance, Entrepreneurship and Aviation
Salt Lake City-July 14, 2003-Imagine a high school student learning the ups and downs of the bull and bear markets in the most state-of-the-art facility west of the Mississippi-with all the high-tech tools of the trade you might expect in a Wall Street brokerage house. Or imagine a teenager getting a jump start on an aviation career with high-tech simulators and a fleet of 15 new planes. Budding teen entrepreneurs can learn the secrets of success from leading entrepreneurs. Some think it beats the beach.
Teens in the western states will converge in Salt Lake City at Westminster College's new Bill and Vieve Gore Center for Business, Aviation and Entrepreneurship-one of the most technologically advanced facilities for business education in the nation. The same outstanding faculty who teach top college and MBA students will help high school students get an edge on their career. The challenge camps run from June 15-20 and July 13-18.
The Finance Challenge Camp allows students to invest a million dollar portfolio in real time, compete head-to-head in trading sessions, and watch fortunes grow or melt away with market changes. Students can check the data boards on the global markets and watch currencies fluctuate. They can test solutions to finance problems with both live markets and historical data from foremost financial information providers, such as Reuters.
In the Aviation Challenge Camp, students can rack up flying time in high-tech simulators, take the controls in flight, chalk up hours on their log book, and earn their Westminster Wings.
The Entrepreneurship/Leadership Challenge Camp allows students to meet leading entrepreneurs, learn teamwork and team motivation, develop a marketing plan to get their business to market, develop leadership skills, and work out financial plans.
"The college made no compromises in its selection of technology, tools and design for the new Center in order to provide students with the most innovative and relevant education available," said Aric Krause, associate dean of the Bill and Vieve Gore School of Business. "Imagine the start high school students can get with these facilities and this faculty. They can get their first taste of college, while having a summer they won't forget, and forging their future," he said.
