The Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory for Theater and Music at Westminster College has received a merit award for outstanding architecture and design in education.
The award was presented by the Council of Educational Facilities Planners International at the organization's Southwest Regional Conference.
The facility was designed by MHTN Architects and built by Layton Construction.
The Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory for Theater and Music is a 53,000-square-foot addition to the school's existing Jewett Center. The new conservatory has a 286-seat recital hall with recording capability. The facility also includes a "black box" theater, which will be used for student theater productions.
Construction will be completed by the end of July. The existing Courage Theater in Jewitt Center will continue to be used for plays and dramatic arts.
Construction of the new building was made possible with a contribution from the Emma Eccles Jones Foundation.
