Men and Women Break Top-10 at Lewiston Invitational
Hard work paid off this weekend for the Westminster Cross Country team. Both teams had athletes break into the top ten overall, as we were running against all the teams in our conference. Every athlete ran a new personal best at the meet. The coaching staff is extremely proud of the team.
The ladies started the day with a great race that saw Beth Nielsen lead the Griffins with a time of 19:06 and an 8th place finish. Sophomore Amanda Theobald followed closely behind in 12th place and a time of 19:11, beating her last PR by over a minute. Following after the team leaders Helen Ho, Lauren Fuller, and Evelyn Monzon ran to new PR’s on a technical but fast 5,000-meter course. The Women’s team finished 5th as a team and sets them right on course to have a great finish at the regional championships in Olympia, WA.
The men team followed and ran a perfect race. Gray Augustus and Grant Rotunda placed 7th and 8th place overall finishing the 8K course in 25:55 and 26:02 respectively, running most of the race together. The men’s team leaders were also followed by a series of new PR’s by Jordan Henderson, Louis Crocco, and Dave Bonomi. Westminster Men’s Team finished 3rd and are also looking forward to even better performances at regional.
Coach Christenson is very excited and proud of the team’s performance and is looking forward to the Regional Championship, on November 3 in Olympia WA. Both men and women’s team are set to record their highest placing since the beginning of the program in 2003.
