Concert Series

The Westminster Concert Series’ 2009-2010 season offers another rich array of chamber music and solo performances in a perfect venue—the Vieve Gore Concert Hall on the campus of Westminster College in the heart of Salt Lake City. Join us for a season of great music. All concerts are in the Vieve Gore Concert Hall, located in the Jewett Center for the Performing Arts and Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory.

SALT LAKE CITY JAZZ ORCHESTRA BENEFIT CONCERT

Saturday, September 19, 7:30 PM

Join us for a splendid evening of jazz with the Salt Lake City Jazz Orchestra. The highly acclaimed local orchestra has performed with such jazz notables as Doc Severinsen, Clark Terry, and Nancy Wilson. They have served as the house band for the Salt Lake Jazz Festival, backing up legendary artists for the last eight years. The concert is a benefit for Westminster College's Music Department. Tickets for this concert will be $25 for General Admission and $10 with a student I.D.

MATSIKO CHILDREN'S CHOIR PERFORMANCE

Saturday, September 26, 7:30 PM

Join us to hear the Matsiko Children’s Choir, a Ugandan musical group composed of 25 orphaned and at-risk children, ages 9–16, who promote the plight of children in Uganda. The performance will include choral singing, cultural dances, staged dramas, and powerful, complex drum routines. Following the performance, they will sell their CDs, jewelry, and t-shirts to help raise funds for the International Children’s Network. The Matsiko directors, James Kaggwa and Samuel Kiberu Straxy, are two men whose college education was funded by the ICN.

Matsiko gets it name from the Ugandan word for “hope.” Last year, the group released its second album, “If Love Was Love,” which will be available for purchase at the concert.

Free and open to the public.

2010 Westminster Concert Series

Come celebrate Chopin's 200th birthday with the Westminster Concert Series. Listen as some of Chopin's best pieces are performed and join in the celebration of this amazing composer. All concerts will be held in the Vieve Gore Concert Hall and will begin at 7:30 PM.
