Adaptive Testing Policy

Based upon the nature and extent of the impact of the student's documented disability, students registered with Disability Services (DS) may be granted an adaptive testing accommodation. It is each student's responsibility to meet with the DS Coordinator early each semester to verify testing needs and arrangements  to implement this accommodation. Individual testing accommodations may include appropriate extended time, distraction reduced area, use of a reader or scribe or other adaptive devices.

All students are expected to conform to the Student Disciplinary Code and the Academic Honesty policy.  These can be found in the current Student Handbook and the current Academic Catalog.

Students are closely monitored during testing. START Center staff members reserve the right to enter the testing room at their discretion to check suspicious behavior and will confiscate items not authorized by the instructor and may terminate the test and return it to the instructor.

For more information on adaptive testing, contact the START Center at 801.832.2280.

Each student must meet with the DS Coordinator at the start of each semester to request special testing. Testing accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis. the coordinator reviews the request and bases the decision on the disability documentation provided by the student and the nature of testing in each course.

Test Scheduling:

  • The START Center administers exams according to prearranged instructions from the instructor and the designated accommodations. The instructor, student, and the Start Center agree on specific date(s) and time(s) for each test to be administered.

  • The student takes a Test Scheduling Form to the course instructor for each test.

  • The student brings the completed Form to the START Center to schedule the test. Tests are scheduled only during normal business hours.  Tests are scheduled only during normal business hours (the START Center is open 8 am to 8pm during finals).  Tests must be scheduled well in advance.

Late requests will be scheduled to the best of our ability depending upon space availability.

If a student fails to show for a test, the instructor will be notified of the student's absence.

Arriving Late

The instructor indicates on the scheduling form how the START Center should proceed when students are more than 30 minutes late.

Rescheduling a MIssed Test

It is the student's responsibility to contact the instructor and seek permission to reschedule the test.  The START Center reschedules the test only after the instructor notifies us by phone or email.
