Food Leadership Summit 2012

Westminster College, Salt Lake City

The Food Leadership Summit is a unique two-day gathering hosted by the Westminster College Environmental Center November 9-10, 2012.  The purpose of the event is to connect and empower food leaders from around our community.  Attendees will include food professionals, growers, restaurateurs, educators, and youth who are active in food issues.

Unlike a traditional conference, this summit employs structured, facilitated peer-to-peer sessions to uncover areas of common interest and need.  Attendees can expect to

  • ·         Generate and participate in peer sessions relevant to them;
  • ·         Define solutions and ideas for change in collaboration with other food leaders;
  • ·         Capitalize on others’ expertise, experience, and thoughts; and
  • ·         Examine their own leadership roles in our collective food future.

Attendance for the summit is limited to 100 participants, so please register early. Summit fee of $75 includes lunch both days.  In order to get the most out of the experience, we strongly encourage all participants to attend both full days.

Friday evening offers a keynote presentation by Anim Steel, Director of National Programs at The Food Project in Boston, MA.  In 2008, he co-founded the Real Food Challenge, a campaign to re-direct $1 billion of college food purchases away from industrial agriculture towards local, fair, sustainable, and humane sources.  This presentation is free and open to the public.  No summit registration is required to attend.
