Westminster's History ProgramWhy Study History?
"History is stories about the human past that we tell ourselves to help us figure out how we got where we are now," says Jeff Nichols, Associate History Professor. A knowledge of history is essential for understanding current events and participating fully in civic life, especially in a democratic republic. Academically, studying History prepares you for advanced studies in history or law school, library science, or the ministry. It can also serve as a stepping-stone to a career in business, secondary education, or government service." You'll examine historical context and content, read great writings, and develop skills in critical examination, methodological analysis, research, and writing. Our faculty represent several complementary historical specialties and academic achievement which guarantees stimulating courses. Many students have worked in various capacities as interns with the Utah State Historical Society, major libraries, and other organizations. What Else?You can elect an academic major or teaching major leading to a B.A. degree in History, or an academic minor or teaching minor. History majors must become proficient in at least one foreign language. |
