Westminster has chosen VCBO Architecture to design Westminster's next master plan. VCBO has been a valuable partner to the college for many years, providing architectural services for Converse Hall, the Giovale Library, the Eccles Health, Wellness and Athletic Center, the Adamson Alumni House, and the Meldrum Science Center.
Steve Crane, a principal and founder of the firm and a Westminster alumnus, has received international honors for his work in educational architecture. He brings to this assignment a particular knowledge about and affinity for the college. Derek Payne, a VCBO principal, has worked closely with the college on the projects listed above, and is a trustee on the Sugar House Community Council. Celestia Carson is an associate with the firm, with experience in educational master planning and design. Whitney Ward is the sustainable systems manager at VCBO, is LEED certified, and has significant master planning experience.
VCBO is also partnering with Sasaki Associates, an international architectural design and planning firm, with significant experience in higher education and planning. Sasaki principal Scott Smith will assist directly, Mr. Smith is a design architect and master planner whose work includes the development of urban district and campus plans, and whose work has won numerous awards. He is a Rotch Traveling Scholar, a Loeb Fellow for Environmental Studies at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and was a Fellow to the Salzburg Seminars Urban Design Conference.
