Why Westminsters' Professional Counseling Program? The MSCP at Westminster

  • Our program's clinical faculty includes licensed psychologists who have practiced for many years in the mental health community.
  • A partnership with the International Psychotherapy Institute allows us to draw from the clinical expertise of its local, national, and international faculty for supervision, teaching, and specialized programming.
  • Our program is broadly based in clinical theories, yet offers the potential for an in-depth educational experience in psychodynamic theory and practice.
  • Our program offers intensive, individual and group supervision, providing optimal opportunities, mentoring, and support for emerging clinicians.
  • Our program incorporates a scientist-practitioner model, helping students understand the relationships between theory, research, and practice related to effective mental health treatment.
  • Clinical internship placements and practicum sites are carefully selected to promote student learning and to facilitate community networking beneficial for future employment in the mental health field.
  • An entering graduate cohort of 15-20 students each year provides the oppportunity for close, supportive peer relationships and attentive faculty mentors.
  • Students with a strong interest in clinical research may choose to complete a thesis, improving their preparation for Ph.D. programs or future employment in research settings.
  • MSPC courses and clinical training prepare students in effective counseling and assessment skills necessary for LPC licensure and eventual employment in hospitals, agencies, and private practice settings.
