MUSIC AT WESTMINSTER

Discover the Westminster College music experience, where you can achieve your unique passion for music through opportunities in vocal, solo, chamber music and interdisciplinary approaches to undergraduate learning.

Thanks to the generous support by the Florence J. Gillmor Foundation and the Gore Endowment for Music, the Music Department at Westminster College offers scholarship support to all music majors. With a dedicated, first-class faculty of performing and scholarly musicians, you will acquire a more personalized focus on your performance and academic needs – within the welcoming setting of a liberal arts college in the heart of metropolitan Salt Lake City.

Scholarships at a glance:

  • Westminster is affordable through generous music talent scholarships – the average Westminster music major pays only a fraction of total tuition costs

  • Merit academic scholarships are awarded in addition to music scholarships, based on your academic records and test scores

What makes Music @ Westminster unique:

  • Performance opportunities in solo, opera, chamber music, and local professional ensembles

  • Extensive mentoring with faculty, masterclasses with guest artists, summer programs, international touring and study abroad opportunities.

  • Our music program is for undergraduates only. There is no competition with graduate students for roles in operas, chamber music, or solo performing opportunities. Those opportunities are usually given to graduate students at larger institutions, so our students finish our programwith the skills and experience to compete with graduate students around the countryat the highest levels.

  • Our graduates have been accepted into top graduate programs and become thriving members of their communities.

Career Options

Some students pursue careers closely related to music, such as performers, educators, songwriters, conductors, arrangers, composers and actors. Others choose careers behind the scenes, or in the business area of music such as producers, engineers, managers, agents, and in publishing and sales. Many careers do not require a specific major but rather a wide range of demonstrated skills and accomplishments. Thus, some graduates pursue careers in fields quite unrelated to music.
